New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 9 met with the President of the United Republic of Tanzania Samia Suluhu Hassan and held wide-ranging talks. The two leaders reviewed various facets of India-Tanzania ties and discussed ways to further deepen the close and historic ties between the two countries. The two leaders held discussion on different issues included trade, commerce and people-to-people linkages.

Prime Minister Modi further said that India and Tanzania are keen to explore new avenues of cooperation in sectors such as education, skill development and IT. At the same time, we want to further deepen linkages in areas like water resources, agriculture and healthcare, where we are working closely at present.

He also mentioned that our nations have decided to work together to form a five year roadmap in the defence sector. This will be beneficial for military training, maritime cooperation, capacity building and the defence industry.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X, "Had an excellent meeting with President @SuluhuSamia. We reviewed the full range of India-Tanzania relations and have elevated our time-tested relation to a Strategic Partnership. The areas of our discussion included trade, commerce and people-to-people linkages. In a joint statement during the state visit of the President of Tanzania to India, both countries said that we are unanimous on terrorism and said that terrorism is the most serious security threat to humanity.


During the joint statement, PM Modi said that India and Tanzania are important partners for mutual trade and investment.


President Samia Suluhu Hassan was accompanied by a high-level delegation including the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Hon. January Makamba (MP), and other members from different sectors, Senior Government Officials as well as members of the Tanzania Business Community.

Spokesperson in Ministry of External Affairs Arindam Bagchi posted on X about high-level delegation meeting, "Delegation level talks between PM @narendramodi and President @SuluhuSamia of Tanzania get underway. A wide range of areas of bilateral cooperation in the agenda, including trade & investment, defence & maritime security, development partnership, higher education and people to people ties."

President Samia Suluhu Hassan will also attend the India-Tanzania Business and Investment Forum on October 10, 2023, where she will deliver the keynote address to the Indian and Tanzanian business communities. She will also hold one-on-one meetings (B2B) with key Indian Business Leaders. With a view to further strengthen the bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across various sectors, the two leaders announced the elevation of Indo-Tanzania relationship to the level of ‘Strategic Partnership’. Both sides noted that the strategic partnership will help the two countries to jointly work on issues like Maritime Security, Defence Cooperation, Development Partnership, Trade and Investment among others.
