New Delhi: India rejected the statement issued by the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on a judgement of the Indian Supreme Court on December 13.
While rejecting the OIC's statement, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spkesperson Arindam Bagchi said on December 13 in a statement it is both ill informed and ill intended.
MEA further said that OIC does so at the behest of a serial violater of human rights and an unrepentant promoter of cross border terrorism makes its action even more questionable. Such statements only undermine OIC's credibility.
The Supreme Court (SC) of India on 11 December 2023 upheld the validity of the Central Government's 2019 decision to repeal the special status of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) under Article 370 of the Constitution.
After the Supreme Court's judgement, the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) issued the statement on 12 December 2023 and expressed concern over the judgement.
"The General Secretariat, in reference to the decisions and resolutions of the Islamic Summit and the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers related to the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, reiterates its call to reverse all illegal and unilateral measures taken since 5 August 2019 aimed at changing the internationally-recognized disputed status of the territory", the General Secretariat of OIC said in its press release on December 12.
"The General Secretariat reaffirms its solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their quest for the right of self-determination and reiterates its call on the international community to enhance its efforts to resolve the issue of Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions", it also said.
