New Delhi: The Emir of the State of Kuwait His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah passed away on December 16.

The Government of India announced on December 16 that there will be one day’s state mourning on December 17 throughout India to mark of respect to the departed dignitary.

Ministry of Home Affairs of India further said on December 16 that the National Flag will be flown at half mast throughout India on all buildings where it is flown regularly and there will be no official entertainment on the day.

Embassy of India in Kuwait also announced that the Indian Flag will be flown at half mast at Embassy of India in Kuwait on December 17.

It also urged Indian nationals in Kuwait to observe two minutes silence at 12:30 PM on December 17 to join 1.4 billion Indians who are observing a day mourning to pay homage to the departed leader.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his condolences on demise of His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to the Royal family, the leadership and the people of Kuwait on December 16.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X on December 16:

"Deeply saddened to learn about the unfortunate demise of His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. We convey our deepest condolences to the Royal family, the leadership and the people of Kuwait."
