Vietnam: On the first leg of his two-nation visit to Southeast Asian countries (Vietnam and Singapore), External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar reached Vietnam on October 15. EAM's Vietnamese counterpart Bui Thanh Son welcomed him at the renowned Tran Quoc pagoda.

EAM Jaishankar thanked his Vietnamese counterpart Bui Thanh Son for the warm personal welcome and said that he is looking forward to co-chairing the 18th Joint Commission Meeting on October 16.

Posting on X, EAM Jaishankar wrote: "Arrived in Vietnam today. Thank you @FMBuiThanhSon for the warm personal welcome at the renowned Tran Quoc pagoda. Looking forward to co-chairing the 18th Joint Commission Meeting tomorrow."


EAM Jaishankar is on an official visit to Vietnam and Singapore from October 15-20. EAM's 4-day visit to Vietnam is from October 15-18.

EAM will co-chair the 18th Meeting of India-Vietnam Joint Commission on Economic, Trade, Scientific, and Technological Cooperation with his counterpart on October 16. During the visit, EAM will visit Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and is expected to hold talks with the Vietnamese leadership. He will also meet members of the Indian community and unveil Mahatma Gandhi’s Bust in Ho Chi Minh City.

In Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, EAM Jaishankar visited the historical temple Tran Quoc Pagoda in Hanoi. EAM further said that the age-old links between India and Vietnam are symbolized by the Bodhi tree here and it was gifted by the first President of India Rajendra Prasad in 1959 to President Ho Chi Minh, who was commonly known as Uncle Ho.

EAM Jaishankar also addresses at the inauguration ceremony of the Bust of Rabindranth Tagore at Bac Ninh in Vietnam.

EAM unveiled the bust of Indian poet, writer, philosopher and social reformer Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore at the International Friendship Park in Bac Ninh province. He said that Gurudev's works are widely known and appreciated throughout Vietnam and he is sure that this will enhance the international reputation of Bac Ninh province and further its strong ties with India.


EAM Jaishankar attended a programme which was performed by Quan Ho Art Theater group from Bac Ninh province and this group will travel to India for the 9th India International Dance and Music Festival in New Delhi.

External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar also interacted with members of the Indian community in Bac Ninh province.


EAM said that the Indian and Vietnamese civilizational connect is so visible at the Phat Tich pagoda in Bac Ninh. He appreciated the warmth of his welcome.


EAM Jaishankar also met Most Ven. Thich Thanh Nhieu of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha at Phat Tich and appreciated his positive sentiments about spirituality, yoga, art and culture.

EAM will leave Vietnam on October 19 for Singapore.

During his visit, EAM will meet his Singaporean counterpart and the top leadership of the country. He will also chair the regional conference of Indian Heads of Missions there.
