New Delhi: External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar left for the United Kingdom (UK) on November 11.
During his five-day (from 11-15 November) visit, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will hold discussions with his British counterpart (Foreign Secretary) James Cleverly and will meet several other dignitaries there.
EAM Jaishankar's visit will give a new impetus to the friendly ties between India and UK.
"The India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership was launched in 2021 along with the India-UK Roadmap 2030. The Roadmap is a commitment to a partnership that delivers for both the countries", the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on November 11 in its statement.
The MEA further said that India and the UK share a warm and thriving relationship.
According to MEA, "External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar (EAM) will be on an official visit to the United Kingdom from 11-15 November 2023."
"India and the UK have a growing bilateral partnership. During his visit, EAM will be holding discussions with his counterpart, Foreign Secretary James Cleverly and will meet several other dignitaries", MEA also mentioned.
According to the High Commission of India in the United Kingdom, EAM Jaishankar visited the UK from 3-6 May 2021 to attend the G7 Foreign and Development Ministers' Meeting. EAM had a bilateral meeting with the then Foreign Secretary Dominic Rabb on May 6, 2021.
During the visit, the EAM also met the UK Home Secretary Priti Pate.
In this current year, the Prime Minister (PM) Rishi Sunak met the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi at the G20 Summit hosted by India on 08-10 September 2023. They reviewed the progress on various aspects of India-UK relations. PM Modi reiterated his invitation to PM Sunak for a separate visit at the earliest convenience.
PM Sunak met his Indian counterpart Modi at the G7 Summit in Japan on May 22, 2023. They discussed progress on a UK-India Free Trade Agreement. The leaders agreed that their teams would continue to work at pace to finalise an ambitious and mutually beneficial deal. The leaders discussed the wider objectives of the G7 Summit and the Prime Minister committed his strong support for India’s G20 Presidency, which comes at a crucial time for global security and prosperity.
