New Delhi/Ukraine: As the Russia-Ukraine war entered its 679th day, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba started his new year (2024) by talking to India.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba held telephonic talks with his Indian Counterpart Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar (S. Jaishankar) on January 3.

During talks, both leaders discussed further cooperation on the Peace Formula and advancing bilateral cooperation in the year ahead between two countries.

They also exchanged views on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

This conversation took place when the External Affairs Minister (EAM) Jaishankar returned to India from Russia in the last week of December in last year.

EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar visited Russia on 25-29 December 2023 for five days.

EAM Jaishankar called on President Vladimir Putin and held discussions with Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov in Moscow during his visit.

Jaishankar (S. Jaishankar) agreed to hold the first meeting of the India-Ukraine Inter-Governmental Commission since 2018 in the near future on 3rd of January, 2024.

Mr. Kuleba informed EAM Jaishankar of Russia's recent escalation of terror and mass air attacks, which caused civilian suffering and destruction during talks.

He also informed Mr. Jaishankar of Ukraine's vision for the Global Peace Summit of leaders.

Taking social media platform X, Mr. Kuleba posted:

"My first call in 2024 was with @DrSJaishankar on Ukrainian-Indian relations. I informed my counterpart of Russia's recent escalation of terror and mass air attacks, which caused civilian suffering and destruction. We discussed further cooperation on the Peace Formula. In this regard, I informed my counterpart of Ukraine’s vision for the Global Peace Summit of leaders. We agreed to hold the first meeting of the India-Ukraine Inter-Governmental Commission since 2018 in the near future. The rejuvenation of this primary mechanism of our bilateral ties will allow us to jointly move forward in a comprehensive manner."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine issued the statement about telephonic conversation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba and EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar on January 3.

EAM Jaishankar wrote on X about his discussion:

On 24 February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine in an escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War that started in 2014.
