New Delhi: Vice President of the Dominican Republic Raquel Peña Rodríguez paid an official visit to India from October 3-5 at the invitation of Vice-President of the Republic of India Jagdeep Dhankhar.

During her visit to India, Vice President Raquel Peña Rodríguez met her Indian counterpart on October 4 in New Delhi, marking high level political dialogue between the two countries. India and the Dominican Republic held productive discussions on bilateral, regional, and multilateral issues of mutual interest.


According to the External Affairs Ministry statement, this visit of the Vice President of the Dominican Republic is most significant as it is taking place at a time when the relationship is entering the 25th year, since the establishment of diplomatic relations on 4 May 1999.

The Vice President of the Dominican Republic also expressed gratitude to the people of India for its solidarity in the provision of COVID-19 vaccines, particularly through its "Vaccine Maitri" initiative, which allowed the vaccination of the Dominican Republic first line workers.

Vice President Raquel Peña Rodríguez met the External Affairs Minister of India on October 3. They discussed further strengthening of bilateral ties, especially in trade & commerce, education, defence, space and renewables. Both sides also exchanged views on regional and multilateral issues as well.


Vice President Raquel Peña Rodríguez of Dominican Republic called on Indian President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on October 3. President Murmu shared with her that bilateral relations between the two countries are warm and friendly, anchored on the strong foundation of shared values of democracy, and a broad convergence of views on global issues.


Recalled the recently held G20 Summit in New Delhi in September 2023. The Vice President of the Dominican Republic congratulated India for the successful organization of the Summit on the theme 'One Earth, One Family, One Future' and thanked India for amplifying the voice and concerns of the Global South and developing countries during its G20 Presidency. The Ministry of External Affairs of India said in a statement.

The following MoUs signed during the visit of the Vice President of the Dominican Republic:

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Central Drug Control Organization of India (CDSCO) and the General Directorate of Medicines, Food, and Health Products of the Dominican Republic (DIGEMAPS), and

MoU between The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, National Institute of Oceanography of India (CSIR-NIO) and the National Authority for Maritime Affairs of the Dominican Republic (ANAMAR).

India and Dominican Republic agreed that both countries should celebrate the 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations in 2024, in a befitting manner. Both sides will consult each other in developing a suitable calendar of events.
