New Delhi: Amid the tension is burning in the West Asia region and the Israel-Hamas war entered in its 99th day today, External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar is ready to embark for the Islamic Republic of Iran.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will visit Iran on 14-15 January 2024.

During his two-day visit, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will meet Foreign Minister of Islamic Republic of Iran Dr. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will embark on a two-day visit to Islamic Republic of Iran on January 14 (Sunday).

"External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar will visit Iran on 14-15 January 2024 as part of the ongoing high-level exchanges between the two sides", the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on January 13.

During his visit, EAM will meet Foreign Minister of Islamic Republic of Iran Dr. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

They will hold discussions on bilateral, regional and global issues.

Political cooperation, connectivity initiatives and strong people-to-people ties will constitute important aspects of the agenda during their conversation.

EAM Jaishankar's visit is also raise the point as it comes two days after the U.S. and the U.K. started bombing attacks against Houthi controlled areas of Yemen.

What is the agenda of EAM Jaishankar's visit to Islamic Republic of Iran:

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi's messenger External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will meet Foreign Minister of Islamic Republic of Iran Dr. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

They will hold discussions on bilateral, regional and global issues including political cooperation, connectivity initiatives and strong people-to-people ties constitute important aspects of the agenda.

EAM Jaishankar and his Counterpart Amir-Abdollahian are also likely to discuss boosting regional connectivity through the Chabahar Port. The port is located in the Sistan-Balochistan province on the energy-rich Iran's southern coast. It is being developed by India and Iran to boost connectivity and trade ties, news agency PTI reported.

It will be the second visit of EAM Jaishankar to any country in the new year, 2024.

He started his first visit from Nepal in 2024. He was in Nepal from 4 to 5 January, 2024, on the invitation of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal N.P. Saud.

While it will be the first ministerial visit from India to Islamic Republic of Iran ever since the Israel-Gaza conflict beginning on October 7 last year (2023). Foreign Secretary of India Vinay Mohan Kwatra had visited Tehran on November 26 last year to participate in the Foreign Office Consultation (FOC).
