New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his condolences on demise of His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to the Royal family, the leadership and the people of Kuwait on December 16.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X:

"Deeply saddened to learn about the unfortunate demise of His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. We convey our deepest condolences to the Royal family, the leadership and the people of Kuwait."

Indian Embassy in Kuwait also wrote on X on December 16:

The Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah died on December 16 at age of 86.

Crown prince of Kuwait Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Jaber Al-Sabah was named the new emir of the country.

He served as Deputy National Guard Commander on October 16, 1994.

He was assigned to be in charge of the portfolio of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor on April 2, 1991.

He was the Minister of Defense on January 26, 1988.
