New Delhi: Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs of India V. Muraleedharan will pay an official visits to the United Republic of
Tanzania and the Republic of Kenya from 20-23 November 2023. A thirty-member business delegation from India will be accompanying MoS Muraleedharan for the visit.
MoS will first visit Zanzibar where he will call on the President Hussein Ali Mwinyi and also hold discussions with other Ministers.
During his visit, MoS will also go to the Campus of IIT Madras that has been set up in Zanzibar. Thereafter, he will travel to Dar-es-Salaam for bilateral discussions with the leadership of Tanzania.
MoS will also chair a business meeting along with his Tanzanian counter part that will bring together the Indian business delegation with their Tanzanian
counterparts with the objective of increasing bilateral trade and investment flows between the two countries.
In Tanzania, there are currently over 60,000 people of Indian origin. Indians have a long history in Tanzania starting with the arrival of Gujarati traders.
MoS will also interact with the Indian community in Dar-es-Salaam.
Thereafter, MoS will visit Kenya from 22-23 November 2023.
During the visit, MoS Muraleedharan will meet the top leadership of the country and also co-chair an India-Kenya Business Meet being organised in association with the Government of Kenya.
He will also meet several Ministers and other functionaries of the Government of Kenya.
MoS will pay a visit to the University of Nairobi and also interact with the Indian diaspora based in Kenya. He will also inaugurate an exhibition on the role of the Indian Soldiers in East Africa during World War I.
India and Tanzania have traditionally close and co-operative relations. Tanzania is a major country of import for India. It imports petroleum products, medicines and pharmaceuticals items, motor vehicles, two and three-wheelers, wires and cables, sugar, electrical machinery/ equipment, yarn, apparel & clothing, articles of iron & steel, plastic products including synthetic polymers, inorganic/organic/agro-chemicals, rubber items including tyres, cotton fabrics, etc.
According to High Commission of India in Nairobi, the State visit of PM Narendra Modi to Kenya on 10-11 July 2016 gave a new impetus to bilateral partnership. PM Narendra Modi and President Uhuru Kenyatta discussed a wide range of bilateral issues. Both leaders witnessed signing of seven (MoUs)/Agreements in the fields of defence, trade and developmental assistance.
