New Delhi: Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Malta Dr. Ian Borg paid an official visit to India from October 06-08, 2023. He was accompanied by senior officials of the Malta Government.
During the visit, Foreign Minister Dr. Borg met his Indian counterpart Dr. S Jaishankar on October 6. Both sides had detailed discussions on the entire gamut of bilateral relations, including trade & investment, maritime cooperation, renewable energy, tourism, culture and people-to-people ties. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest including India-EU Cooperation, Ukraine, India's G20 Presidency and UN reforms and India's engagement in the Mediterranean.
Taking social media site X, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar had posted on October 6, "Pleased to welcome FM @MinisterIanBorg of Malta this afternoon in New Delhi. Our talks covered India’s increasing trade & commerce, investments and people to people ties with the Mediterranean. Also discussed cooperation with respect to the European Union and Africa."
Taking social media site X, Minister for Foreign Affairs and European Union Affairs and Trade of Malta Ian Borg had also posted on October 6 about his meeting with his Indian counterpart, "Met Indian FM @DrSJaishankar in New Delhi. This meeting proved to be very fruitful. We discussed ways to enhance our collaboration in several spheres, including those political, economic, commercial and cultural. We also covered how to improve investments and people to people ties. A fitting occasion as we approach the 60 years of excellent diplomatic relations."
Foreign Minister Dr. Borg also held a meeting with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). He paid a visit to Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple and National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi.
The first visit to India by Foreign Minister Dr. Ian Borg provided fresh impetus to relations between India and Malta, External Ministry of India said in its press release.
