Kathmandu: As the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had committed to provide all possible assistance to Nepal following the earthquake in Jajarkot on November 3, the first consignment of the INR 10 Crore worth of emergency relief materials arrived at Nepalgunj in Nepal on Sunday (November 5).
More than 150 people had been killed due to the earthquake in western Nepal on Friday (November 3).
Prime Minister (P.M.) of India Narendra Modi on November 4 had expressed deep grief over the loss of lives due to the earthquake. PM Modi had said that India stands in solidarity with the people of Nepal and is ready to extend all possible assistance.
"Deeply saddened by loss of lives and damage due to the earthquake in Nepal. India stands in solidarity with the people of Nepal and is ready to extend all possible assistance. Our thoughts are with the bereaved families and we wish the injured a quick recovery. @cmprachanda", posting on the social media platform X, on November 4, the Prime Minister had wrote.
A special Indian Air Force C-130 flight transported the consignment of over 11 tonnes emergency relief materials that included tents and tarpaulin sheets, blankets and sleeping bags as well as essential medicines and medical equipment such as portable ventilators for the affected people, Indian Embassy in Kathmandu said in its statement.
Yesterday, on November 5, External Affairs Minister (EAM). Dr. S. Jaishankar had informed through the social media about the India's emergency relief assistance to earthquake affected areas of Nepal.
EAM Jaishankar had posted on X on November 5, "Providing emergency relief assistance to earthquake affected areas of Nepal. As a first responder, India delivers medicines and relief material.PM @narendramodi’s Neighbourhood First policy in action."
Ambassador of India to Nepal Naveen Srivastava handed over the relief materials on behalf of the Government of India to Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka of Nepal in the presence of Chief Minister of Karnali Raj Kumar Sharma.

Earlied, on November 4, Ambassador of Nepal to India Dr. Shankar Prasad Sharma had thanked India for offering support in difficult time and showing solidarity. This statement of the ambassador Sharma had come just after the PM Modi's statement posted on X on November 4.
Taking to the X, Ambassador of Nepal had wrote, "An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 has resulted in hundreds of deaths and injuries in Western Nepal. 🇳🇵 Deeply saddened by loss of lives and damage and wish for a speedy recovery of those injured. Thankful to 🇮🇳 for offering support in this difficult time and showing solidarity."
Today (November 6), Ambassador of Nepal appreciated India's support in this difficult time. Ambassador Sharma also said that India, as the first responder, sent an emergency aid package worth of NRS 160 million, comprising medical equipment, relief materials and more, for people affected by earthquake in Western Nepal.
Posting on X he wrote, "India, as a first responder, sent an emergency aid package worth of NRS 160 million, comprising medical equipment, relief materials and more, for people affected by earthquake in Western Nepal. We really appreciate India support in time of need."
Further consignments of the relief material are expected to arrive in the coming days. As a close friend and neighbour, India remains committed to extending all possible support to those affected by the earthquake in Nepal, Indian Embassy in Kathmandu said in its statement on November 5.
Indian Embassy in Kathmandu further mentioned that India continues to be a First Responder in crisis situations in its neighbourhood and beyond. Following the 2015 earthquake in Nepal, the Government of India was the first responder and carried out its largest disaster relief operation abroad - Operation Maitri.
India had also extended US$ 1 billion to Nepal as part of its long-term assistance for post-earthquake reconstruction in housing, education, health and cultural heritage sectors and included reconstruction of 50,000 houses in Nepal’s Gorkha and Nuwakot districts, Indian Embassy in Kathmandu said in its statement on November 5
