Kathmandu: India handed over the second consignment of emergency relief materials for earthquake-affected families in Nepal by the Deputy Chief of Mission Prasanna Shrivastava on behalf of the Government of India to the Chief District Officer of Banke Shravan Kumar Pokhrel in presence of Nepalgunj Mayor Prashant Bista on November 6.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar said on the social media platform X on November 6 that the second flight carrying 9 tonnes worth of emergency relief assistance landed in Nepal. He further said that India's support to Nepal remains strong and steadfast in this difficult hour.

The consignment of 9 tonnes of relief material was transported to Nepalgunj by a special Indian Air Force C-130 and comprised essential medical and hygiene supplies, tents, sleeping bags and blankets, Embassy of India in Nepal said on November 6.

The Embassy of India in Nepal further said on November 6 This is part of the Government of India's efforts to support the Government of Nepal in the wake of the earthquake in Jajarkot on 03 November 2023. The first consignment of more than 11 tonnes relief materials provided by India which included tents, tarpaulin sheets, blankets, and sleeping bags along with essential medicines and medical equipment was handed over to the Government of Nepal on 5 November 2023.

The Embassy of India in Nepal said on November 6 that India continues to remain steadfast in extending all possible support to the Government of Nepal in the aftermath of the Jajarkot earthquake.

Earlied, on November 4, Ambassador of Nepal to India Dr. Shankar Prasad Sharma had thanked India for offering support in difficult times and showing solidarity. This statement of the ambassador Sharma had come just after PM Modi's statement posted on X on November 4.

Taking to the X, the Ambassador of Nepal had written, "An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 has resulted in hundreds of deaths and injuries in Western Nepal. 🇳🇵 Deeply saddened by loss of lives and damage and wish for a speedy recovery of those injured. Thankful to 🇮🇳 for offering support in this difficult time and showing solidarity."

Yesterday (November 6), the Ambassador of Nepal had appreciated India's support in this difficult time. Ambassador Sharma also said that India, as the first responder, sent an emergency aid package worth NRS 160 million, comprising medical equipment, relief materials and more, for people affected by the earthquake in Western Nepal.

Posting on X he had written, "India, as a first responder, sent an emergency aid package worth of NRS 160 million, comprising medical equipment, relief materials and more, for people affected by the earthquake in Western Nepal. We really appreciate India support in time of need."

Further consignments of the relief material are expected to arrive in the coming days. As a close friend and neighbour, India remains committed to extending all possible support to those affected by the earthquake in Nepal, Indian Embassy in Kathmandu had earlier said in its statement on November 5.
